Compliance archive
Compliance archiving means that e-mails are archived in their original state according to the rules of the compliance policy settings. Before an e-mail is available to the user, Exchange creates a copy of the original e-mail in a dedicated mailbox, which is automatically archived. The user cannot modify the e-mail before archiving takes place and the user cannot modify this copy of the e-mail in the archive because the user has no access rights to this dedicated mailbox archive.
A compliance archive does not require the ImageMaster Outlook Add-Ins to be installed with the Outlook clients for all of the end users of an environment. Instead, at Exchange server level a journal recipient is enabled for each user mailbox. Any e-mail that is processed by the Exchange server will be copied/sent to such a journal mailbox. This process of e-mail archiving is run in an automated fashion completely in the background.
Note that journal mailboxes with an assigned policy must once be activated in the ImageMaster AdminClient with the action To enable a mailbox for Spider. For details see [UM AdminClient].
In some cases it is possible that stubs of archived e-mails will be moved to the folder “NotQualified”. These stubs can be deleted.
See chapter Mailbox archive use cases for further compliance archiving use cases.
