NetApp ONTAP

ImageMaster supports NetApp ONTAP storage, which requires configuration via the dialog shown below:

NetApp properties are split into two parts. In the right part of the screen, configure a connection to a NetApp storage. In the Access via drop-down, select a connection type:

In the left part of the screen, configure the NetApp parameters related to archives retention management; see the table below for NetApp parameters description.

If the volume is “VOL1” and the archive is placed in the directory “employees/archive” under “VOL1”, the Volume Path will be “employees/archive”.

If “/data/vol1” is the mount point of the volume “VOL1”, in contrast to the volume path, the absolute path in the archive (ftp or sftp) is “/data/vol1/employees/archive”.

If the configuration entries for “Path” and “Volume Path” are inconsistent, the archive will be corrupted!

The following options are available:

  • ONTAP 8

    Starting from ImageMaster version 9.14.1.1, ONTAP 8 is no longer supported. An error will be displayed if you try to save the configuration with ONTAP 8 selected.

  • ONTAP 9

  • REST: If selected, the ONTAP REST API is used to access the NetApp storage system. The access will be defined using Volume ID

Throw Retention Time Exception

  • If unchecked (the default state), the available maximum time is set as a retention time

  • If checked, a retention exception is thrown if the retention time to set is greater than the maximum time which can be set on the storage system

    Be aware of limits depending on the storage type and check the exact limit that applies in your individual case. NetApp, for example, supports a maximum retention period of 30 or 70 years [NetApp Retention]. Any attempt to assign a longer retention period can result in an error with a message like the following during the archiving process: “DOC-00040: failed to assign a retention plan template”. Also see Retention management configuration.

  • If unchecked (the default state), retention times are not written

  • If checked, possible retention times are written to the underlying file system that supports hardware retention times
