Classic versus modern experience

Starting from version SharePoint Server 2019, SharePoint offers a modern view, which was also designed for better use on mobile devices.

To switch the default experience for lists or document libraries from new or classic:

1. In the modern experience, for a list or document library, select , and then List settings or Library settings.

   In the classic experience, Library Settings or List Settings are located on the ribbon.

2. Select Advanced settings:

3. Towards the end of the settings list, select List experience. The configuration view is displayed:

4. Select one of three supported options:

   • Default experience set by my administrator

   • New experience

   • Classic experience

   To save changes, select OK.

   Due to some restrictions, even when you select New experience, you might sometimes see the classic experience. For more details see [Experiences] .

To change the experience for all lists and libraries on a site

1. You can activate the site collection feature SharePoint Lists and Libraries experience to set the classic experience as the default for an entire site. For more details see [Site collection feature].

2. When both the site collection feature is active and the List experience for a list or library is set to New experience, the new experience is used.
