Single instancing

Single instancing is a technique that avoids redundancy when objects are stored (e.g. whole e-mails or binary attachments), and that manages access while such objects are still in use. If the same object is requested for archiving more than once, the system will use only one instance of the object, and add a reference to this object, instead of storing another identical copy of this object.

In the ImageMaster Content Services for E-Mail single instancing can be applied for compliance archiving (see chapter Compliance archive) and for mailbox archiving (see chapter Mailbox archive).

If ImageMaster partitioning is used, single instancing only works within one partition and does not take place beyond partition boundaries.
