Document update notifications

The “OfficeClient” solution in ImageMaster is based on an interaction between MS Office and the ImageMaster WorkplaceClient that is opened in a browser (see Modify an existing Microsoft Office document). When you have finished editing a document in MS Office, you typically return to the WorkplaceClient to further process the edited document in ImageMaster (e.g. to adjust metadata and change attribute values or to proceed with a workflow in a scenario with ImageMaster BPM). Document update notifications make sure that the view of the document is refreshed automatically when you return to the WorkplaceClient.

However, in scenarios with multiple ImageMaster application server instances handled by a load balancer it has been observed that such notification events are not supported by some load balancers with undesired effects on the internal system level (e.g. error messages that could be ignored and related unnecessary system resource consumption). In such a scenario you must disable document update notifications. The consequence is that a user returning to the WorkplaceClient will initially see an outdated document view but still can use the refresh button to quickly update the view.
